May well have been another way

Dear Editor,

Why was no one hugging that very old, very big tree that has been a landmark on Highway 20 since anyone around here can remember? Since apparently the powers that be decided that the wishes of the people don’t matter, they saw no reason to announce their intentions to cut it down. Whatever their reason for taking down that giant, there may well have been another way.

I heard through the grapevine that the tree was given away to a private citizen. I don’t know how many board feet there were, but what a nice gift. I hope whoever did this can enlighten me.
