Okanogan Valley Orchestra & Chorus to perform this Sunday

OMAK-The premier concert for the Okanogan Valley Orchestra and Chorus season will be on Sunday, October 16th, at 3:00 pm in the Omak Performing Arts Center. Music performed by both the orchestra and the chorus will feature selections representing cultures from around the globe and across time periods for a “World Tour”.

The orchestra is directed by a new conductor this year. Matt Brown brings many years of expertise and experience in leading music groups via his position as Music Teacher at Manson Secondary School. He received his bachelors in Music and Music Education from the University of Washington and earned his Masters in Music from the American Band College through Sam Houston State University. Mr. Brown has selected Ralph Vaughn Williams’s “English Folk Songs Suite”, Australian born Percy Aldridge Grainger’s “Early One Morning”, and selections from Russian Stravinsky’s “Firebirde Suite”. The Chorus, again under the direction of Jonathan McBride, will sing music from South Africa, Hawaii, Hungary, Spain, Turkey and America. The Chorus and Orchestra join forces on the theme from the movie, Amistad, “Dry Your Tears, Afrika”.

Four concerts are scheduled for the season among them are: “Celebrate the Holidays” on Dec. 4, “Spirit of Adventure” Family Concert on Feb. 12 and “Swing into Spring” on April 2. All concerts are on Sunday afternoons at 3 p.m. at the Omak Performing Arts Center located at the Omak High School.

Season tickets are on sale providing an opportunity to purchase all 4 concerts for the price of 3. Individual concert tickets are $12 for general admission with discounts for Seniors, $10, and Youth, $8 (age 12-18). Children under the age of 12 are admitted free.
