Dorothy Zosel

Dorothy Grace DenHerder Zosel passed away after a brief illness at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee on Jan. 30, 2009.

Dorothy was born in Ireton, Iowa on Sept. 14, 1927 to Gerrit and Jeanette DenHerder. At an early age, Dorothy made her choice to serve the living God. She offered her life in the ministry in 1948. When she was unable to continue, she worked briefly at the State Department in Olympia. She married Ralph Zosel of Oroville on Sept. 14, 1962. She became the mother of five children with this marriage. Dorothy remained in Oroville the rest of her life.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph, of their home; two sons John (Linda) and Howard (Nancy), both of Oroville; as well as two daughters: Mary Zosel of Oakland, Calif. and Ruth (Rob) Hoag of Overland Park, Kan. Dorothy’s eight grandchildren include Bill, Scott, Andy and Trevan Zosel; Kimberly Hoag, Megan Williams; and Heather and Monica Zosel; and ten great-grandchildren. She was a “second mom” to Gianina Gronlund and Katrina Kindred. Siblings include, Albert (Alice); Robert (Norma); Gerald (Rosana) and Hank (Coila) DenHerder and sister, Maryann (Al) Berg. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Nancy Anne Zosel, two brothers, Gene and Melvin DenHerder and one sister, Donna Gama.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday Feb. 6 at Bergh’s Funeral Home in Oroville. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday Feb. 7 at the Oroville High School Commons. Arrangements are by Legacy Memorial of Omak, Wash.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or The American Cancer Society.
