Sandy Jenkins DeBuryn

Sandy (Muriel) Jenkins DeBuryn went to be with the Lord on Nov. 23, 2010. She was born Jan. 14, 1924 to Audrey and John Jenkins in Bellingham, Wash.

She graduated from high school in 1941 and went to work at the Lake Washington Shipyards where she met her husband, Donald DeBuryn. They were married Aug. 2, 1942 and after the war settled down in Whidbey Island. They had four daughters and two sons before moving to Everett where their youngest son was born. They moved to Santa Maria, Calif., in 1962 and lived there until Don’s death in 1985.

Sandy was a wife and mother until that time and then joined the Forest Service. She worked in Goleta, Calif., and then at the Paradise Ranger Station. She went on several forest fires as a provisions officer and loved her work at the ranger station. She retired in 1995 and moved to Oroville where she worked two summers at the U.S. Forest Service’s information center in Winthrop. She also worked at the Oroville Visitor Information Center and finally as site director at the Senior Center. She made, many friends there and at her church. She attended the Free Methodist Church and was loved by many.

She was predeceased by her husband, her parents and her brother, Jack.

Sandy is survived by and will be greatly missed by her seven children: Marci (Gene) Bonebright of El Cajon, Calif., Janice Martin of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Peggie Roulet of Oroville, Loralyn (Oly) Wostl of Westminister, Colo., Paul (Ronna DeBuryn of Everson, Wash., Peter Deburyn of Nipomo, Calif., and Mark (Joni) DeBuryn of Elkview, W. Va. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; and her sister Barbara Breen of Salem, Ore.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service at the Free Methodist Church in Oroville on Dec. 18, 2010 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Oroville Senior Center, PO Box 31, Oroville, WA 98844 or to the Youth Activity Center, c/o OFMC, PO Box 9, Oroville, WA 98844.
