Margaret Jennings died Oct. 9, 2010, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Margaret, the daughter of Thomas W. Martin and Valborg C. Martin, was born March 5, 1918, in Mansfield, Wash.
She grew up in Mansfield and Tonasket with her sisters Esther, Audrey and Catherine. She graduated as Valedictorian from Tonasket High School in 1935. She attended Washington State University where she earned a degree in Pharmacy in 1939, later working at Halpen’s Pharmacy in Spokane Valley where she met her future husband, Edward L. Jennings. They married Sept. 10, 1940, in Spokane. They moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1947 when they purchased Hart Drug Store, which they continued to operate until they retired in 1977. Edward preceded her in death in1999.
Margaret had many hobbies and interests including gardening, bird watching, bowling, sewing, cake decorating, cross country skiing and boating. After retiring, Margaret and Ed enjoyed traveling to China, Europe, Mexico, Alaska, New Zealand, Tahiti, Norway and England. They spent many happy times at their lake house on Pend Oreille Lake.
Margaret enjoyed the many clubs she belonged to, including AAUW, PEO, Soroptomists and GRQ. In recent years she especially enjoyed stitchery and was always eager to try new techniques. She participated in several stitchery groups where she had many dear friends who shared her enthusiasm.
With the help of her family and many devoted and generous friends, Margaret continued to live independently until shortly before her death.
She is survived by her three children: Gayle Jennings, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Laurie Jennings (Douglas Sault), Boulder, Colo., and Mark Jennings (Sally), Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandchildren, Melissa and Kristopher and two great grandchildren, Blake and Kobe.
