TONASKET – Several athletes on the Tonasket High School track and field team were honored with Caribou Trail League All-Team awards during the banquet on Monday, June 8.

CJ Mathews received a First Team All-League award for Pole Vaulting and Damon Halvorsen received an Honorable Mention for the 1600. The 4×100 Relay team, John Stedtfeld, Mathews, Barry Pentz and Terrell Cross, received Honorable Mentions as well.

The honor of being chosen team captions went to senior Veronica Puente and junior Corey McCrarey.

“Being a team caption puts a lot of responsibility on an athlete,” Bob Thornton, head coach, said. “They run practices and are good leaders.”

The Most Inspirational award from the team went to Puente while the Most Improved team awards went to Jake Hickman and Emmy Hickman. Puente also found out last week that she is the first Tonasket student to be chosen to run in the state cross-country East-West Senior All Star race in Seattle this summer. Another team award was Best Smile, which went to Christina Ortiz and Halvorsen.

Several of the athletes also received first year letters. Elizabeth Cleman, Brandi Wilson, Amy Johnson, Shelby Scott, John Stedtfeld, Halvorsen, Mathews, Amber Kilpatrick and Jessica Spear all received first year letters.

Michelle Carlson, Corey McCrarey, Kellen Sauer, Spencer Podkranic, Veronica Puente and Teriquah Cholmondeley also received letters.
