Tonasket Police Officer Janet Storey resigns

TONASKET – The Tonasket City Council, in a special meeting on Friday, April 22, accepted the resignation of Tonasket Police Office Janet Storey, effective Saturday, April 30.

“On April 21, Storey turned in her resignation which will be effective as of April 30,” Tonasket Police Chief Robert Burks said in a statement. “Storey was a police officer for the City of Tonasket from Feb. 4, 2002 until her resignation on April 30 at which time she has chosen to pursue other opportunities. Storey performed the duties of patrol officer, handling various emergency and non-emergency calls for service as well as self initiated activity such as traffic stops, proactive patrol and general good will. The City of Tonasket thanks Officer Storey for her years of service.”

During the special city council meeting, Mayor Patrick Plumb said Storey offered a settlement to dismiss all discipline issues by offering a resignation.

“Storey has accepted our disagreement,” Burks said during the meeting. “She will receive normal wages for six months and accrue vacation time, sick time and holiday pay she normally would during that time as well. We’ll cash out the vacation time in a lump sum at the end of the six months and the checks will stop then as well. She will then be moved to a reserve officer.”

Storey’s resignation was accepted by the city council with a 3-0 vote as Council Member Selena Hines abstained from voting due to a conflict of interest and Council Member Jill Vugteveen was not present.

“I do appreciate Storey’s service to the City of Tonasket,” Plumb said.
