WARDEN – Just two days after losing their match to Omak, the Tonasket wrestling team finished third at the Warden Invitational.

On Thursday, Jan. 7, the Tigers lost to Omak 49-30 in an away match. Jared Stedtfeld, Lee Leavell, Andrew Grillo and Keegan McCormick all pinned their opponents, head coach Dave Mitchell said.

Then on Saturday, Jan. 9, the Tigers finished behind Warden and Kittitas for third place among nine teams. Tonasket placed ahead of Lake Roosevelt, Connell, Newport, Colfax, Cascade and Brewster.

“Tonasket did real well, getting six wrestlers into the finals,” Mitchell said. “Tonasket had two champions: Grillo and McCormick. We had four wrestlers take second place: Tyler Laurie, Riley Buzzard, Peter Williams and Dustin Silverthorn. Placing third for us were Stedtfeld and Leavell. Corey McCrarey took fourth and Ryker Marchand took sixth.”

Also wrestling were Brendon Brereton, Collier Brereton and Derek Rimestad.

“This week is a busy week for us, we have Cashmere here on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. and then Lake Roosevelt here on Thursday night,” Mitchell said. “Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. is the eight-team Tonasket Apple Pie Invitational wrestling tournament. The teams attending our tournament are: Tonasket, Oroville, Okanogan, Liberty Bell, Republic, Warden, Chewelah and Kettle Falls.”
