CHENEY – Three Tonasket track runners competed in the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s 1A State Track Meet at Eastern Washington University last weekend with one of them setting personal records in two events.

“On a cool, windy and rainy day, in races against the best in the state, Damon Halvorsen ran two races in two days and set new personal records in both races,” Bob Thornton, head coach, said. “Halvorsen and Jake Hickman ran the men’s 1600 meter race at Cheney. They both finished their season with good races. Halvorsen finished in 11th with a time of 4:50, a personal record, and Hickman finishing 16th in 5:06.”

Junior Jessica Spear, Thornton said, finished the women’s 1600 meter race strong to place 13th in state with a time of 5:58.

He said Halvorsen ran a very smart race in the men’s 3200 meters to place 11th with a time of 10:27, another personal record and only six seconds behind the seventh place finisher.

“With the boys both being sophomore and Spear being a junior, the future looks goof for Tonasket track,” Thornton said.

The track banquet, as of press time, had not yet been scheduled.
