Second place finish for Tigers at Districts

OMAK – The Tonasket Tigers finished the District 6 Wrestling Tournament in second place with 239.50 points, trailing only Omak with 353 points on Saturday, Feb. 5.

The Tigers began the tournament with 19 wrestlers competing in every weight class except 103 and 285. Sixteen of those wrestlers finished in the top six and 11 of those 16 will wrestle at the Regional tournament this Saturday, Feb. 12 in Tonasket.

“Congratulations to Tonasket for their second place finish,” Head Coach Dave Mitchell said. “It was great that Tonasket had a great showing of supporters down at Omak.”

Among the 11 wrestlers going to Regionals, Tonasket has two District Champions: junior Jared Stedtfeld at 112 pounds and senior Dustin Silverthorn at 160 pounds.

Placing second for the Tigers were sophomore Dalton Wahl at 130 pounds, sophomore Austin Booker at 152 pounds, senior Keegan McCormick at 171 pounds and senior Brandon Hudson at 215 pounds.

Finishing in third place were freshman Collin Aitcheson at 119 pounds, senior Enrique Ortega at 125 pounds, senior Tyler Laurie at 135 pounds, senior Peter Williams at 140 pounds and senior Lee Leavell at 145 pounds.

The Tigers had no fourth place finishers but finishing in fifth place were junior Ryker Marchand at 119 pounds, sophomore Jeff Stedtfeld at 125 pounds and sophomore Derek Rimestad at 145 pounds. These three are alternates for the regional tournament.

Finally, finishing in sixth place were sophomore Quinn Mirick at 160 pounds and senior Josh Lofthus at 215 pounds.

Also wrestling for the Tigers were freshmen Dyllan Walton at 130 pounds, Marcelino Ruiz at 135 pounds and John Rawley at 189 pounds.

The 11 top four placers will wrestle at the one-day Regional Wrestling Tournament held in Tonasket on Saturday, Feb. 12 beginning at 9:30 a.m. From there, the top four placers in each weight class will go on to the State Wrestling Tournament at the Tacoma Dome from Friday, Feb. 18 to Saturday, Feb. 19.
