Peggee Martin Batista

Peggee Martin Batista died at North Valley Nursing Home on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011 after a brief illness.

Peggee was born in Spokane on June 14, 1928 to parents William and Ora O’Neill where she was raised. After high school she attended Morse Beauty College. In 1951 she married Bill Martin and they later moved to Oroville where they raised their son, Patrick. A wonderful relationship also grew with her two step-daughters, Sherry and Dana. Bill and Peggee were married for 25 years. Bill died in 1976. In 1990, Peggee married Carmen Batista and they were married for 18 years. Carmen died in 2008.

Peggee lived a full life sharing her many skills with others. She was never without a book to read and enjoyed water, snow skiing and golf. Her skill at the bridge table was well known and she taught others to play the game. She also used her artistic abilities in ceramics and crocheting. Many people were given slippers and beautifully crafted crocheted gifts. She also was a good cook. Her talent and love of music was expressed through the guitar and piano. These gifts she shared by teaching children to play and enjoy music.

Peggee was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ora; husbands Bill and Carmen; half-sister, Jeannie Glass and step-daughter, Dana Montgomery.

She is survived by her son, Patrick and his three children: Shane, Casey and Angela (Jared) Brantner and their three children: Sean, Justin and Tyson; Step-daughter, Sherry (Jim) Shelton and Son-in-law Marvin Montgomery.

A Memorial Service will be held at Deep Bay Park on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011 at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
