Much to do at Molson Midsummer Festival

MOLSON – There were probably fewer people inside the Grange Hall and the Old School Museum this year, but that could be because it was so nice outside and there was so much to do.

“We had 200 plus at the pancake feed, but for the most part it wasn’t as busy inside. But that could have been because it was so nice outside,” said Joyce Forthun, one of the organizers of the family event.

“It was a good day. I believe more people participated than in other years,” Forthun said. “We could have had a few more to pitch horseshoes.”

One of the more popular things to do when you’re not in the museum or the hall is to check out the cars in the classic car show. This year’s first place award went to Joe Schell of Tonasket for his bright red, fully restored 1948 Diamond T truck. Tim Roberts got second for his 1966 Ford and Dave Hilstad got third for his black 1936 Buick.

“I learned to drive on this,” said Schell, pointing to the big red truck. “Lawrence Staples owned the truck and it was at his Knob Hill Farm.”

When Staples retired in the early 1960’s he sold it to Schell, who didn’t get around to starting the restoration for about 40 years.
