TONASKET – The North Central Educational Service District’s Math Leadership Alliance Design Team has been selected to receive the State Team Award from the Washington State Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
At the Tonasket School Board meeting on Monday, Oct. 27, board chair Catherine Stangland read a letter from Kathy Clayton, executive director of the Washington State ASCD stating the Math Leadership Alliance Design Team had been selected to receive this award for “influencing the instructional leadership and professional growth of educators.”
The Washington State ASCD will present the team with their award during their annual conference luncheon on Friday, Nov. 7 at the Spokane Convention Center. The seven members of the team, Superintendent Glenn Johnson of Cashmere, Superintendent John Atkins of Soap Lake, Superintendent Randy Hauff of Tonasket, Superintendent Brian Flones of Wenatchee, retired Superintendent Steve McKenna of Manson, Superintendent Larry Keller of Cheney and Superintendent Bob Risinger of Omak, will all receive certificates during the luncheon.
Following this congratulatory announcement, Haley Grillo, Tonasket High School Associated Student Body representative, gave the THS report to the board. She said the high school would be doing a coin drive for the U.S. Armed Forces Legacy Park Project. During this coin drive, each class will have a jar for students to put money into. Pennies will earn the classes positive points, while any silver coins in the jars will deduct points from the classes. Grillo said the money would be presented at the Veteran’s Day assembly on Nov. 10 from 8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the high school commons.
Grillo also said the Future Farmers of America sent Kody Ayers, Austin Olma, Kimberly Nelson and Meghan Kelly to nationals from Oct. 18 to the 26. The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America will be selling Halloween Grams for Star Events in the spring this week. Finally, Grillo told the board the Future Business Leaders of America had two meetings both with very low turnouts but are hoping to go to the regional fall conference on Nov. 12.
The board approved the second reading of Policy and Procedure 2022: Tonasket School District Electronic Resources Acceptable Use Policy. Hauff then recommended the board approve the Minimum Basic Education Requirement Compliance for the 2008-09 school year, which the board approved. The board then voted to cancel their Nov. 10 meeting because the board is attending the Washington State School Director’s meeting during November.
The school board also approved Becky Hightower’s field trip request for achievers to attend west side college campuses. The students will be visiting St. Martin’s University, Evergreen State College, Pacific Lutheran University, Seattle Pacific University and the University of Washington from Sunday, Nov. 9 to Tuesday, Nov. 11.
Finally, Hauff told the board he had received an invitation from Chartwell, the school district’s food services management company, for a dinner reception on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m.
The school board’s next meeting is Monday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m.
