TACOMA – A former Tonasket High School football player and senior at the University of Puget Sound was recently named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District team.

Boone Freeman, a physics and mathematics major, was named to the Academic All-District team for the second year in a row due to his 3.68 grade-point average. Freeman was a starting left tackle of the UPS Loggers this past season.

“Boone was one of our best offensive linemen,” Phil Willenbrock, UPS head football coach, said. “He was a very dominate player. One of his greatest attributes was how intelligent he was, which is important for a lineman. He not only knew his own assignment at left tackle, but he was also able to help everybody else because of how smart he is.”

Willenbrock added that Freeman is very deserving of this distinction for the second year in a row.

“The thing that makes it important for Puget Sound is that we’re such an academic school that his 3.68 GPA here is like a 4.0 at any other school,” Willenbrock said. “This speaks highly of Boone and his family.”

With his spot on the Academic All-District first time, Freeman is now eligible for selection to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American team which will be released later this month.
