All Tigers qualified for districts meet

OMAK – Ten Tonasket cross country runners qualified for the District 6/7 Championship in Wenatchee with their performances at the Caribou Trail League Championships, held in Omak on Thursday, Oct. 21.

“They ran very well,” Bob Thornton, head coach, said. “The boys’ team beat Chelan for the first time all year.”

Junior Damon Halvorsen was the top finisher for the boys’ team, coming in second place with a time of 16:48, just 24 seconds behind Cashmere senior Roman Velazquez. Junior Jake Hickman finished in fourth place at 17:09, senior Matt Gschiel finished in eighth place at 17:48, senior Enrique Ortega finished in 26th place at 20:12, senior Jorge Ornelas finished in 28th place at 20:36 and senior Peter Williams finished in 29th place at 21:09.

For the girls’ team, junior Kyndra Dellinger was top finisher, placing third with a time of 20:38 while senior Jessica Spear finished in fourth place at 20:42, senior Michelle Carlson finished in 22nd place at 23:30 and freshman Kathyrn Cleman finished in 26th place at 24:28.

“Halvorsen, Hickman, Gschiel, Ortega, Ornelas, Dellinger, Spear, Carlson and Cleman all improved on their times,” Thornton said. “Also, Halvorsen, Hickman, Spear and Dellinger all made first team all-league and Gschiel made second team all-league.”

The District 6/7 Championship will be on Thursday, Oct. 28 at Walla Walla Point State Park in Wenatchee. The women’s 1A varsity race will begin at 1:30 p.m. and the men’s 1A varsity race will begin at 2:15 p.m.
