OROVILLE – Okanogan Borderlands Historical Society is celebrating a fantastic museum and visitor information season, according to Kay Sibley, president of the organization.

The total count of individuals that signed in at the museum was 3562, whether visiting the museum only or using the services of the visitor information center, according to Sibley.

“The numbers show 42 percent of the visitors are our neighbors from Canada and 148 visitors from other countries. The museum volunteer hosts and contracted visitor center personal were busy and remarked ‘It was fun to meet all the people and amazing how thrilled they were with our small museum.’ One couple commented it was the best small museum they had seen on their vacation through southern B.C., Montana and Idaho,” Sibley said.

OBHS appreciated the support of the business owners who supplied information about their services and goods available locally. An effort was made to send individuals to local wineries, accommodations, eateries and services in both the Oroville and Tonasket area.

When asked about one of the most frequent inquiries, Ellen Barttels, who works at the visitor information center, replied, “Where is the post office?”

This question happened at least three times a week. However, the most unusual request was from a person wanting information about a local ghost or spirit, according to Barttels.
