LEAVENWORTH – Tonasket ended their season with a sixth-place finish in the Caribou Trail League district volleyball tournament held at Cascade last Saturday.

Finishing sixth in the league with a record of five wins and nine losses was enough to edge the Lady Tigers into the tournament. They took on third-place Okanogan in the first round of district play and the Lady Bulldogs won the match in three games straight 25-21, 25-18 and 25-19.

This put the Tigers in a contest for fifth- or sixth-place in the district tournament and they were matched up against the Lady Pioneers of Omak. Omak won that match in three as well 25-18, 25-16 and 25-16.

Our season is finished, but our love of the game continues. I can’t wait until next year,” said Tiger Coach Nellie Kirk.

The tournament totals for the day were:

Felisha Laurie, 13 for 13 serves; Cierra Silverthorn, 14 for 17 serves and seven kills; Amber Allen, 18 for 20 serves and 11 kills and Jessica Kitterman, 15 for 20 serves and three kills.

On the way to the district tournament the Lady Tigers faced the undefeated Chelan Mountain Goats on the road on Tuesday, Oct. 23. The Tigers’ varsity squad lost to the Lady Mountain Goats 25-14, 25-13 and 25-14. In that match Allen had nine for nine serves and Laurie had six for six.

“It’s hard to play the team that hadn’t lost any matches in your last league match. We did our best, but they were tough,” said Kirk.

In the C-squad match the Tonasket girls won 25-19, 15-19 and 25-18. The junior varsity lost 25-14, 25-13 and 25-14.
