TONASKET – The Tonasket Tigers Football team used the home-field advantage to trounce the visiting Lake Roosevelt Raiders in their season opener Friday, Sept. 2.

The 1A Caribou Trail League Tigers defeated the 2B Raiders in a shutout of 33-0. The game started fairly even with the Tonasket and LR both failing to score in the first quarter. However, in the second, the Tigers came alive with John Stedfeld scoring two touchdowns, the first on a 15-yard run and the second on an 86-yard punt return. Both extra point attempts were no good. Stedfeld rushed seven times for a total of 85 yards gained for the evening.

With 1:08 left in the half Dylan Fewkes added another touchdown on a 15-yard run. Kenneth Freeze ran the ball in for two points and the half ended with the Tigers leading 20 to nothing.

In the third quarter it was Tyler Whitney’s turn scoring on a seven-yard run, with the extra point kick missing the mark. Whitney carried the ball nine times for a gain of 78 yards. The fourth quarter saw Austin Booker run the ball in for the final TD and the extra point kick was good. Booker had 33 yards for the evening on five carries. Collin Aitcheson went 50 yards on four carries during the game.

For the evening, quarterback Fewkes completed four passes on seven attempts for 54 yards, averaging 13.5 yards per pass, while his opponent went to the air five times with only one completion and a total of nine yards. The Tigers fumbled the ball twice, while LR fumbled three times during the evening. Tonasket rushed for a total of 282 yards on 37 carries and the Raiders had 195 yards on 43 carries
