OMAK – An Omak man died when he failed to negotiate a curve on Hendrick Road and rolled down a 150-foot embankment Friday, Nov. 12.

The victim, Travis G. Rairdan, 25, was heading eastbound on Hendrick Rd. at 7:05 p.m. in a white 1985 Chevrolet pickup, according to Okanogan County Undersheriff Joe Somday.

“The vehicle locked up its brakes leaving some skids on the roadway prior to going off the edge of the road,” said Undersheriff Somday. “After the vehicle left the roadway it clipped a power pole and the vehicle overturned. The vehicle rolled down the hillside, about 150 to 200 ft and struck the patio roof at 6 Valley View Park Drive.”

“Rairdan was ejected and received obvious head injuries,” Somday said. “He was transported by ambulance to Mid-Valley Hospital and declared deceased.”

The suggested speed for the curve is 20 miles per hour and the speed limit in the area is 35 mph, according to Somday, who added that there is no guardrail, but all curve-warning signs were in place.

“It was a one vehicle, single occupant accident. A blood draw was conducted… alcohol use was suspected as multiple empty and sealed alcohol containers were at the scene. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was not responsive when the deputy arrived on scene,” Somday said.

Rairdan’s next of kin have been notified. He grew up in Tonasket and graduated from Tonasket High School.
