Let's put out the fire in AeneasValley

Dear Editor,

I have just read Reva Eisenbarths letter (Gazette-Tribune, May 1, “Concerns still haven’t been addressed”) which was a response to an earlier letter I had written. Though not intended to, it seems to have struck a nerve. I wish to make it very clear that I am NOT responding to the contents of her letter. To respond would have crossed over into the negative side, which I choose not to do.

It should be clear to all by now that a negative editorial battle is not going to accomplish anything. Simply put, everybody is talking but nobody is listening. No minds are going to be changed. In fact all this activity just prolongs the ill feelings and pain that many feel. Everyone is losing here, there are no winners. The last two commissioners meetings have calmed down quite a bit and actual constructive dialogue is beginning. That is what we need to focus on. When all is said and done we still have to live together in this valley for a very long time. We don’t have to be friends but let’s all show a little civility and respect for the others points of view. Of course there can be disagreements but if everyone is committed to making this work we can overcome them.

So let’s all stop this feuding and work toward the betterment of the fire district. Together we can accomplish truly amazing things that will benefit us all

Most importantly, to keep this from happening again in the future, we all have to focus on communications, not just the commissioners. It is everyone’s responsibility. If there are concerns, complaints or questions then they need to be brought to the attention of the appropriate person(s) in a civil manner. Please keep in mind that most fire district and fire department decisions involve factoring in a lot more information than the average citizen is aware of. So have faith that we are all trying to do the right thing.

Finally, I am really proud of the positive editorial page responses of our many supporters throughout this ordeal. Your support was truly appreciated.
