OROVILLE – The Oroville Hornets hosted their first league game of the season on Saturday, Jan. 2 against Soap Lake and won by a wide margin, 62 to 16.

The Hornets ended their first quarter of play with a seven-point lead 11 to four and never looked back from that point on, said Assistant Hornet Coach Kristin Sarmiento.

By the end of the first half the Hornets were leading the Lady Eagles by a spread of 22 points, 28 to six.

“Oroville did a good job on defense and had the most offensive rebounds they have had all season,” said Sarmiento.

Leading the Lady Hornets in scoring was senior Rachel Peters with 13 points, followed by sophomores Kelsey Hughes and Naomi Peters with 10 each and senior Alex Egerton with nine. Hughes also crashed the boards for nine rebounds for the night.

The Lady Hornet’s next two games are on the road – Tuesday, Jan. 5 against Liberty Bell and Friday, Jan. 8 against Entiat. Their next home game will be against Manson on Friday, Jan. 15.
