I hate to say I told you so — but I told you so

During the previous administration my liberal minded friends would routinely ask me if I was sorry I had voted for Bush yet. Well, now I submit that same question about Obama – are you sorry yet?

Before last year’s election I gave serious thought to the options available, held my nose and voted for McCain because as I said in my opinion of Oct. 21, 2008, Obama could not be trusted. Now my concerns about his lack of integrity, dishonesty and continuous obfuscation about his real agenda is painfully clear and it is turning Americans against each other.

Obama’s agenda is unconstitutional. That should be no surprise. Obama has said, “the Constitution is a document of limited government rights…it says nothing about what the government can do on your behalf.”

He is absolutely right about that. The founding fathers created the Constitution precisely to limit the power of government, which in their experience was oppressive by its very nature. The result has been a country with over two hundred years of personal freedom that has unleashed the most creative and productive society in the history of the world.

Obama cannot be trusted. His campaign web site included this quote: “What you won’t hear from this campaign or this party is the kind of politics that uses religion as a wedge, and patriotism as a bludgeon – that sees our opponents not as competitors to challenge, but enemies to demonize.” – Barack Obama, June 3, 2008.

Well here we are just barely six months into his administration and in facing a growing resistance to his program to fundamentally change America, Obama is demonizing his opponents. It’s not the first time he has lied to push his agenda. Is it any wonder that dedicated Americans are beginning to say loudly and passionately that this is not the change they voted for?

Obama and his party have been aggressively moving to destroy our system of free market capitalism that has made this country the envy of the world. He has already moved the American automobile industry well down the road to extinction. He has attacked doctors and insurance companies as the root of all that is wrong with our health care system. And his cap and trade system will destroy what is left of our American energy companies making us even more dependant on foreign oil.

Those who are speaking out against this radical agenda are being called Nazi’s and racists. The President has even said that those opposed to his plan should not be allowed to talk about it. In his words, “those who created this mess should just shut up.” In other words, Obama doesn’t believe in our Constitutionally protected freedom of speech.

On this page are cartoons and letters from those who support the Presidents agenda. I print them because I do believe in free speech and I think we all need to step back, take a deep breath and listen to each other.

These issues are important. Too important to rush through because in the President’s words, “we won.” Yes our health care system needs some reform, but I don’t believe we need to enslave our doctors to the state in order to make meaningful change. And we are entitled to honest, direct answers from our elected representatives. Answers that address our concerns no matter how vociferously they are presented. It is the elected representatives that must be able to handle these difficult questions without attacking the integrity of concerned citizens. In the words of Harry Truman, another Democrat President, “If you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen.”

The Democrats did win this election. But make no mistake this is not your father’s Democrat party. Another Democrat, John F. Kennedy, said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” Today’s Democrats have turned that approach on its head.

Passions are high, that is part of the message. If our President and elected representatives cannot treat the voters with respect then just maybe they need to hear a little anger and frustration.
