OROVILLE – On Saturday, Oct. 16, the Oroville Invitational Cross Country meet was held under a sunny blue sky at Oroville’s Lake Osoyoos Veterans Memorial Park.

The Hornets hosted teams from Tonasket, Republic, Liberty Bell, Lake Roosevelt and Chelan.

In the team scores, Chelan finished first for the girls’ race, with 25 points. Oroville was second with 36 and Republic was third with 85.

In the girls race Hornets Sierra Speiker and Catie Arrigoni ran great, finishing first and second respectively.

“Actually the whole team ran well. Coming as close as they did to Chelan was fantastic. Chelan is always one of the best “A” teams in the State,” said Coach Doug Kee.

For the boys’ race Republic took first with 33 points, followed by Chelan, 48; Liberty Bell, 89; Lake Roosevelt, 90 and Oroville, 110.

In the boys race Republic was impressive with four runners in the top 10. At this point the Republic boys are ranked second in the State for 2B schools and they looked like it, according to Coach Kee.

“Zack Spieker has been our top runner all season and he ran well, placing 12th,” Kee said. “Connor Hughes came in next for Oroville in 30th and behind him was a pleasant surprise, Ruben Renfro, a freshman new to the sport, came in 31st.”
