OROVILLE – Despite cold and windy conditions, the Hornet track and field team hosted the Eagle Home Mortage Oroville Invitational on April 2 with Cascade finishing first for the girls and Republic for the boys.

Both Oroville boys and girls teams finished in seventh place, said Hornet Coach Harold Jensen.

On the girls side, Callie Barker won women’s pole-vault with a personal record of 8’6″ and Sierra Speiker also took first in the 3200. Kelsey Hughes placed third in the shot put as well as fourth in the javelin and Catie Arrigoni placed sixth in high jump. The girls’ 800m relay consisting of Brittney Jewett, Naomi Peters, Callie Barker and Briana Moralez took fifth.

On the boys’ end CJ Matthews won both the pole-vault and triple jump, took third in the 110 hurdles and was third along with Luke Kindred, Tanner Smith and Preston Iverson in the 400m relay. Caleb Haney was second in the discus.

For the team scores, Republic finished first with 84 points, followed by Cascade, 80; Okanogan, 74; Chelan, 49; Soap Lake, 44; Omak, 42; Curlew, 34, Tonasket, 30; Lake Roosevelt, 23; Waterville, 16; Bridgeport, 16; Oroville, 15; Pateros, 10 and Manson 3. For the girls team, Cascade was first with 88.5; Okanogan, 81; Chelan, 57; Republic, 56; Omak, 53.5; Curlew, 51.5; Oroville, 42.5; Pateros, 36; Lake Roosevelt, 32; Bridgeport, 29; Tonasket, 10; Northport, eight; Waterville, five and Manson, four.

“The track team would like to thank all those who assisted and helped put on the meet,” said Coach Jensen.
