OROVILLE – The home field advantage didn’t help much as the Oroville Hornets fell to an early Halloween attack of the White Swan Cougars last Friday by a score of 15 to 47.

Oroville went scoreless through the first quarter, while the Cougars racked up 26 points on four touchdowns. The Hornets answered with a touchdown of their own in the second on a 69 yard pass from quarterback Preston Iverson to Matt Kelly. Iverson followed with a successful PAT kick. White Swan added another two TDs to their score and went into half time with a lead of 40 to seven.

The Hornets struggled again in the third and went scoreless while the Cougars upped their score by another TD. In the fourth it was Oroville’s turn to hold their opponent scoreless.

With time running out Hornet Blaine Wagner snagged an interception well in Hornet territory and ran it back for a whopping 55 yards in the fourth. Oroville lined up for the PAT kick and the holder flicked the ball back to Iverson who ran right and spun out of a grab by the Cougar defense, running the ball back to the left and across the goal to score the two point conversion.

Oroville’s Nick Perez had 78 yards rushing on 24 carries, while Iverson had 35 on 13 carries. Caleb Whiteaker added 10 yards rushing on two carries and Kelly had eight on one carry.
