OROVILLE – The grandstands were full as Frances Marchand was named Chesaw 4th of July Rodeo Senior All Around Cowboy after winning the bareback, saddle bronc and senior cow riding events last Monday afternoon.

Marchand’s saddle bronc ride on “Decent” was perhaps the most exciting 8 seconds of the annual rodeo which attracts people from all over Washington and Southern B.C.

The Junior All Around Cowboy this year was Kaelyn Marchand, who took first place in the junior cow riding competition. Taking second in the junior cow riding was Tarren Moussy and Dustin Nigg took third.

There were no other successful riders in the bareback riding, while Levi Brotherton took second place in the saddle bronc event. Coming in second in the senior cow riding was Jake Nelson, with Eric McKinney taking third. Stewart Leslie, Mike Nelson and Gerad Gregoire all tied for fourth.

Stewart Leslie and Michael Leslie teamed up for first place for the wild cow milking. Jake Histad and Buster Parson were second place and Eric McKinney and Jake Nelson were third.

For the open barrels, Hannah Gotha was first, Laura Sanders, second; Tammy Taylor, third and Katie Nelson, fourth. Sammi Walmaki was first place in junior barrels, Kaelyn Marchand, second; Brittney Jewett, third and Taylor Kramer, fourth. Pee Wee Barrels was won by Lynda Dietrick, second place was Cory Olson and third place was Clay Buckert.

In the Junior Cow Roper, Oliver Williams put on a show and was the only successful cowboy to rope a calf during the event – securing first place.

The kids also got into the act with calf riding taking place between events, the chicken chase and calf roping.
