Elenore L. Rampley
Elenore L. Rampley, 89, of Tonasket passed away suddenly at North Valley Hospital on Aug. 7, 2008. She was born on April 5, 1919 in Westby, Wis. to Ole and Hilda (Nedrud) Pederson.
She was married to Ernie Rampley on June 20, 1939 and they moved to Washington State and worked for Bebee Orchards near Chelan. In 1944 they purchased and operated a family orchard north of Tonasket. After the death of her husband she moved off the orchard into town where she resided since 1966. Elenore packed apples for nearly 40 years and most of that time was at Smith & Nelson warehouse. She enjoyed packing and was a very competitive packer. She also was a substitute mail carrier for many years. She was a member of the Tonasket Community Church and was an active member of the Grange.
In her younger years Elenore was very athletic and was a great ice and roller skater. She enjoyed bowling and received many trophies to show her talent for the game. She was excellent at crocheting and enjoyed making afghan blankets for her family and friends. Her Norwegian heritage provided her with the art of making great Norwegian pastries. She made the best pie crust.
She is survived by: sister MaryAnn Genovese of Libertyville, Ill.; son and daughter-in-law Terry and Cara Rampley of Tonasket; daughter and son-in-law Marie and Kent Boothman of Ellensburg; son and daughter-in-law Lee and Cherry Rampley of Spokane Valley; granddaughters LeeAnne, Tiffanie, Crystal and India; grandsons Rob, Ernie, Ron, Mickey, John, Brian and Coley plus 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernie; her parents; seven brothers; one sister; an infant son, Ronald; and daughter Patty.
A celebration of Elenore’s life will be held at a later date to accommodate family travel. The family requests that memorials be made to the Tonasket Community Scholarship Fund, c/o US Bank, P.O. Box 508, Tonasket, WA 98855 or the Tonasket Senior Center, P.O. Box 86, Tonasket, WA 98855.
