OROVILLE – Languishing for over two years, the Desert Breeze condominiums in downtown Oroville not only have new owners, but a new name and attitude.

Gordon and Jason Taylor, financiers from Calgary, Alberta, now own the former Desert Breeze condominiums and expect the first 12 units in the project, renamed Senora Shores, to be ready as soon as December 2009, according to Cindy DeVon of Re/Max Lake and Country Realty of Oroville.

“They have hired contractor River City Construction from Wenatchee to complete the project,” said DeVon, whose company represents the developers. “The new owners have proposed a similar project with some differences.”

DeVon said the Taylors have proposed five condo-style buildings like the first one that is nearly completed. However, according to DeVon, the units in the other four buildings may be larger with a different floorplan. The Southwest theme will be continued throughout the project.

“They also plan on building a few townhouses located on the north end of the property, close to Jerry Ecklor’s,” she said.

Echler owns a marina where several people moor their sailboats on Lake Osoyoos. DeVon says having Ecklor and his business as a neighbor will be a good fit.

In addition to the condos, a pool, hot tub and shower area, DeVon said there will most likely be a retail spot on Main Street, perhaps serving ice cream. Something perhaps similar to Tickleberry’s, a popular ice cream spot like the one located in Okanogan Falls, BC., she said. The plan still includes a public trail along the shore of the lake as well, she said, adding the trail was part of the original conception by the former developer and was part of his agreement with the city.

The new plan allows for more recreation room and more parking area, according to DeVon.

The old developer was plagued by financial troubles so building was done in fits and spurts. DeVon said the new owners shouldn’t have any such troubles with financing.

“The Taylors are solid developers known for getting the job done,” DeVon said. “The first building is scheduled to be finished this December and the footprint for the next phases will begin before the start of the next year.”

The relator says later in October there will be an open house so people can view what the completed condominiums look like, including two show suites.

“It’s a new project with new lifeblood… the old mojo is gone and they’re starting fresh and we’re working with good, solid people,” DeVon said.
