Missoula Children's Theater fundraisers this Sunday

TONASKET – This Sunday, Feb. 13, there will be two events to raise funds to bring the Missoula Children’s Theater back to Tonasket.

From 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., the kids’ event will take place in the Tonasket Elementary School commons. Fundraiser organizer Kari Alexander said the kids will be fed dinner, have activities to do and will have a movie, most likely “Lady and the Tramp” played for them. The cost for this fundraiser is $10 for the first child in each family and an additional $5 for each sibling.

The adults’ event, a Valentine Soiree, will be from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Community Cultural Center. There will be live entertainment provided by Julie Ashmore, Reed Engel, The Hydes, Steve Kinsey, Leaha Passaro, Mariliz Romano, Sandy Vaughn, Sundog, Norm Weddle and Doug Wilson.

Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served at this semi-formal event. Donations for this portion of the fundraiser will be taken at the door.

“Because of cutbacks in support for our art programs, we need to raise money from community members [to bring Missoula Children’s Theater back to Tonasket],” a letter by Alexander states. “This year’s residency will cost $2,750. We have $500 and a fundraiser scheduled for Feb. 13, but we still need your help. Please consider a gift at any level to help us ensure this program will continue in our community. Without this program, our community will not have this tremendous opportunity.”

Alexander is raising money to bring the Missoula Children’s Theater back to Tonasket in March for a production of “The Frog Prince” on Saturday, March 12 at Tonasket Elementary School at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

“Each year, the Missoula Children’s Theater (MCT) comes to our school to give our youth the opportunity to participate in performing arts,” Alexander wrote. “MCT tour/actor directors arrive on Monday, audition and cast our kids by that afternoon, work with them throughout the week and by Saturday the cast is ready to perform a full-scale hour-long musical production.”
