Students collect over 2,000 pounds of food

TONASKET – Tonasket Elementary students broke their school record in the annual food drive, gathering 2,219.6 pounds of food last week.

The fifth graders, who have been the reigning champions for pounds of food collected each year since the were in the third grade, prevailed once again, bringing in a total of 727 pounds of food during the week. Third graders placed second at 325.4 pounds of the 2,219.6 pounds collected school-wide. “Katie Abrahamson started this event her first year here, and it’s been awesome. We’ve blown away the other schools,” said TES Receptionist Leann Bevier.

“This is definitely one of the most fun parts of my job,” said Abrahamson, the TES Counselor and Homeless Liaison.

Having at least as much fun as Abrahamson were the students, competing among the grade levels to bring in the most food. This year’s fifth grade class won, as they have each year since they were in third grade, with a
