OROVILLE – The ninth annual Country Celebration, sponsored by the Oroville Community Library Board as a fundraiser for the building fund, will take place at the Oroville Grange Hall this Saturday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m.
The annual event features a dinner and silent auction, with this year’s entertainment provided by the musical group, The Mood Swings. Brewster librarian, Judy Johnston formed the group 11 years ago. Johnson is joined by Cara Mia Vance and Betsy Rainsford on vocals. The group performs classic jazz around the inland northwest with the support of drummer, Greg Johnston, who has played drums with the group since its early beginnings. Don Pearce will be sitting in on piano with them.
“We have also found that whereas many in our audiences hold fond personal memories from the Swing Jazz era, we are also seeing a lot of Baby Boomers and have therefore updated our material to step well into the 1950’s, with even a few classics from the 1960’s,” said Johnston.
Many generous donations have been gathered to be auctioned off at the silent auction. There are two round trip tickets to anywhere Alaska Airlines flies in the continental U.S., one night’s stay at Northern Quest Resort and Casino, a Kindle, a generous basket of local produce from the Farmer’s Market vendors, tools, a pedicure from Sonia’s Beauty Spot and much more.
Everyone is invited to attend the Country Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Oroville Grange on the corner of Fir Street and 7th. Lasagna dinner will be served by donation at 6 p.m.
