Oroville Hornets lose double-header to LB Lions

OROVILLE – The Oroville Hornets baseball team dropped two games to the Liberty Bell Lions last week.

The Hornets lost the first game by one point, 8 to 7.

“Zach Speiker pitched a good game getting six strikeouts,” said Hornet Head Coach Tam Hutchinson.

For the Hornets, Chris Curdie went three for four with a double, scored two runs and made two RBIs. Matt Egerton scored two runs and also had two RBIs and Eddie Ocampo had a double.

“The infield made some fielding and throwing errors that hurt. Oroville also made mistakes with base running,” said Coach Hutchinson.

In the second game the score wasn’t as close with the Hornets ending up trailing 5 to 15. Liberty Bell started off with three runs in the first. Lead off batter for Oroville, Preston Iverson, hit a triple and stole home in the top of the first. Liberty Bell continued to score in the second and third inning before Oroville answered in the bottom of the third when Egerton hit a double with one man on. The score after three innings was 9-2.

Charlie Demartino came in to pitch in the fourth, giving up one hit and no runs. Demartino then led off the inning with a double and scored on a fielder’s choice. Liberty Bell scored six runs in the top of the fifth on a series of walks and deep hits. Oroville answered in the bottom of the fifth with only two runs with back to back hits by Speiker and Egerton and a double by Chad Tibbs.
