Obama's campaign of political disinformation

Wikipedia defines disinformation as the deliberate spreading of false information in order to deflect voter support from an opponent. Obama’s campaign has engaged in attacks on the credibility and character of anyone who would dare challenge his campaign, but it has also distorted the truth of Obama’s political agenda.

There is no doubt that our country is facing a significant financial crisis and everyone agrees that this is now the number one issue in the campaign. Democrats want us to believe that it is all the fault of Republicans and only they and Barack can save us from the meltdown. Obama and his campaign have done everything they can to reinforce that lie. It is clear to anyone who has been paying attention that Democrats, particularly on the House Banking Committee, were instrumental in creating the mess. And ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now), one of Obama’s primary sources of experience as a Community Organizer, has been instrumental in forcing the banks to make the bad loans that Democrats and the Obama campaign are now vilifying. Obama and the Democrats continue to lie and distort their part in these decisions.

Obama has no discernable plan for improving the economy other than to raise taxes, ostensibly on the rich, and to increase spending. The truth is we cannot tax our way out of this mess. In fact raising taxes will actually make the situation worse. Obama’s campaign response is that it’s not true he is raising taxes. Under his plan 95 percent of the people will receive a tax cut and that only those making over $250,000 per year will see a tax increase.

Obama’s position is either an outright lie or he so out of touch with economic reality that he doesn’t understand it is mathematically impossible to do what he says he can do. The bureau of the census reports that the average household income for the top five percent of the households in the country last year was $177,000, which means those making over $250,000 are an even smaller percentage of our total population. To expect that the top 2-3 percent of our population should pay the taxes for the bottom 95 percent is ludicrous.

And when Obama is confronted with the fact that the bottom 40 percent of the population pays no income tax today, Obama says that’s not true – they pay payroll taxes. Obama says he will refund part of those taxes to the taxpayers. The payroll taxes that Obama is talking about are Social Security and Medicare taxes; two programs that are already in severe financial trouble. So Obama is willing to put seniors on Social Security at an even greater risk for losing the benefits on which they depend in order to get elected. Again, Obama’s plan is nothing more than disinformation to distract voters. In truth it shows he has no real experience or desire to truly address the economic problem.

Now that ACORN has come under fire, Obama and his campaign are denying that he had anything to do with those people. At this point it is a pattern of lying and deception that should raise serious questions about Obama’s integrity and loyalty. Obama has denied ever witnessing the sermons of hate and anger displayed by his pastor of 20 years. He has denied any meaningful association with an admitted domestic terrorist and now he claims his connections with ACORN were merely incidental even though his campaign gave ACORN over $800,000. When these associations are questioned, Obama’s campaign responds with attacks on the opposition. Many of those attacks are vicious, personal and often downright lies. For example, Sarah Palin has been accused of banning books that weren’t even in print when the alleged event took place and of pretending to have a baby to cover up for her unmarried daughter. Now confronted by a plumber with a question that probably reveals too much of Obama’s real agenda, his campaign found it necessary to attack “Joe the plumber” by investigating his background and making sure the public knows Joe has some personal problems. They have even attempted to distort Joe’s question in an attempt to discredit him.

Samuel Adams once said, “The public cannot be too curious concerning the characters of public men.” And Ronald Reagan wrote, “The character that takes command in moments of crucial choices has already been determined by a thousand other choices made earlier in seemingly unimportant moments.” Our country is in a moment of crisis that will demand true leadership. Leadership of a person with integrity, loyalty, dedication, resolve and the ability to draw us together not drive us further apart. Obama has not demonstrated he has that depth of character.

Obama cannot be trusted. His web site includes this quote: “What you won’t hear from this campaign or this party is the kind of politics that uses religion as a wedge and patriotism as a bludgeon — that sees our opponents not as competitors to challenge, but enemies to demonize.” – Barack Obama, June 3, 2008.

Obama and his campaign have attempted to demonize “Joe the plumber,” Sarah Palin and any other group or organization that attempts to show you, the voter, just how wrong Obama’s positions are.

Eloquence is great but it is no substitute for the honesty and integrity that is required of someone who aspires to be President of our great country.
