MANSON – On Tuesday, Sept. 15, the Oroville Lade Hornet Volleyball players traveled to Manson for an exciting competition which ended in a victory for the Hornets.

“The Lady Hornets set out to do their part in the title of teamwork, dedication, desire, and enthusiasm. They succeeded in a satisfying victory of: 25-20, 25-20, 25-27 and 25-21,” said Assistant Coach Stancy Nutt.

There were many factors to this victory, the main one being the 11 team members never gave up, according to Nutt. Some great defense from the back row and some very impressive net play proved rewarding. Servers were rarely missed and all 11 players returned the ball to Manson. The eleven Lady Hornets were Mariah Brown, Austianna Quick, Rebekkah McCoy, Kayla McKinney, Melanie Thompson, (Mo) Pensioi Bunsaenphaen, Heather Galvan, who stepped in and out of the games along with Hayley Gerken. These two substituted, fought hard, and were a major part of the team success. Justyce Olson, Jasmine Nutt, and Fernanda Perez all played their roles in jumping in with the team and adding their skills.

Unfortunately, the Hornet Junior Varsity game was cancelled due to ineligibility of the Manson team and the Oroville girls were unable to travel.

“They were greatly missed as they are a big part of our Oroville Hornet team and would have been a great asset. However, all was not lost. Dara McCoy and Dalene Nigg were able to run practice for these girls, and our junior varsity showed support, dependability and responsibility, as well as dedication and leadership by supporting and helping with our Junior High volleyball team. Katy Smith and Terra Mullikin line judged all six games. Way to show teamwork, Hornets. Good job to all!” Nutt said.

The coaches expressed their gratitude to Cory Thompson for attending the Manson game and being their official score keeper and Steve Thompson also for supporting the Hornets in Manson and doing a great job at crowd control. They were greatly appreciated.
