OROVILLE – Connor Hughes and Juan Lopez combined to score 32 points, and Dustin Nigg scored six of his 10 points in the fourth quarter as Oroville shook off a poor shooting night to get past Pateros on Friday, Jan. 4, 48-38.

Despite being a low-scoring contest, the game featured seven lead changes through the first three quarters as neither squad could take control.

Carlos Cisneros hit a 3-pointer late in the third quarter to give the Billy Goats a 35-32 lead, and after an Oroville turnover Pateros had an open look at a 3-pointer that could have opened up a six-point lead.

That shot didn’t go, and Hughes answered with a 3-pointer of his own to tie it. Pateros scored just three points the rest of the way and Nigg scored three times on layups in a rough-and-tumble fourth quarter.

Hughes finished with a game-high 20 and Lopez added 12 for the Hornets (3-6).

Cisneros had 18 and Mikey Piechalski had 12 as the pair scored all but one of Pateros’ (3-5) baskets.
