Local food banks

OROVILLE – The Oroville food bank operates every Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., excluding holidays, in the basement of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. For more information, call Jeff Austin at 476-3978 or Jessica Lakey at 476-3817.

TONASKET – The Tonasket food bank operates every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 300 S. Whitcomb Ave. Drop-offs can be made at Tonasket Tavern. For more information, call Jack Gavin at 486-2480 or Debby Curren at 486-2459.

Valentine’s Scotch Doubles

OROVILLE – The Oroville Eagles is having a Valentine’s Scotch Doubles pool tournament on Saturday, Feb. 16. Cost is $10 per couple. Sign up to play is at 1 p.m. with games beginning at 1:30 p.m. Also that evening is a Filet Mignon dinner ($25 per couple) beginning at 6 p.m. followed by dancing to the beat of Rusty Spur from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. All members and guests are invited to attend.

Java Live Series

OROVILLE – The first in the Oroville Public Library’s Java Live series 2008 will be Saturday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. There will be two sets of music, one by Chuck Oakes and one by Sara DeRose and poetry by Dreamer. The dessert and coffee bar will be well stocked and the puzzle table will be going strong. The evening is sponsored by Prince’s Department and Grocery Store, Amy’s Internet Auctions and Sonia’s Beauty Spot. This event is free to all.

Standing Room Only

TONASKET – Back by popular demand is SRO (Standing Room Only) at the Community Cultural Center on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. with Samantha Culp singing at 6:30 p.m. At 5:30 p.m. a chili dinner will be served with cornbread, a drink and dessert for $5. MOLSON – The Fourth Annual NW Ice Fishing Festival is being held on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Sidley Lake in Molson.

Dinner at Sitzmark

Genealogical Society Meeting

OKANOGAN – The Okanogan County Genealogical Society will hold their first meeting of 2008 at the Wilson Research Library on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. The Research Library is located across the street from the PUD office.
