OMAK – The Wenatchee Valley College at Omak Foundation has recently awarded seven $500 scholarships to Wenatchee Valley College students attending courses at the Omak campus. The students receiving the scholarships are: Cory Riehart, Andrea Thompson, Connie Stafford, Ira Michel, Elizabeth Hernandez, Elder Hernandez and Erin Andreas.
The WVCO Foundation scholarship committee uses a number of factors to select scholarship recipients including GPA, financial need, community involvement and submitted essays. The foundation will award an additional set of scholarships in spring 2008.
In addition to the scholarships, the foundation also announced two new grants to support the students at the Omak campus. The organization has donated $3034 to the allied health/nursing department for the purchase of new nursing equipment and $1966 to the campus’ science department for the purchase of supplies and equipment.
“On behalf of the foundation, I’m pleased to announce these latest contributions,” said Steve Chervinskas, WVCO Foundation president. “We are proud of the students who have earned these scholarships and congratulate them. We also want to thank the community for supporting our foundation and our mission of improving access to high-quality education.”
“The Omak foundation would also like to extend a special thank you to Gail Milliken from Oroville for her generous donation this year. Milliken donated $8,000 to the foundation to be used for student emergencies and other related educational needs,” said Chervinskas.
He added that the donation has already assisted a student who had all of her school books stolen. With the Milliken funds, the foundation was able to help the student purchase replacement books and have a successful quarter, he said.
