TONASKET – Tonasket’s tennis teams handed Oroville a pair of non-conference losses on Thursday, March 24, as the Tiger boys swept three singles matches from the Hornets and the Tonasket girls claimed a 4-1 victory.

For the boys, Tonasket’s Anthony Verhasselt defeated Ronel Kee 6-0, 6-0; Trevor Terris topped Joseph Sarmiento 6-2, 6-4; and Brian Hendrick defeated Donny Wise 6-0, 6-0.

On the girls’ side, Tonasket’s Michelle Timmerman defeated Oroville’s Menze Pickering 6-0, 6-0 in first singles; and Claire Thornton topped Jenavonne Glover 6-1, 6-4 in Glover’s first-ever singles match.

The Tigers’ Kayla Monroe and Megan Beyers beat Oroville’s Lily Hilderbrand and Ashley Marcolin 6-0, 6-1 in first doubles; Abby Gschiel and Marchand Renald edged Angela Nelson and Meagan Moralez 6-7, 6-1, 6-3, and Oroville’s Megan Meiers and Aya Cruspero won their third doubles match 6-8, 6-4, 6-2.

“The experience of the Tonasket girls was too much for our young girls,” said Oroville coach Kristin Sarmiento. “But it was a great learning experience.”

Earlier in the week, Oroville hosted Wilson Creek, which has just four players.

Ali Miller lost in first singles to Clarissa Hanson 6-1, 6-4; Menze Pickering lost to Samantha Dowers in second singles 6-3, 6-4; and Aya Cruspero defeated Mariah Bicondoua in third singles 6-3, 6-1.

Ashley Marcolin and Lily Hilderbrand played first doubles as a play-back against Hansen and Dowers and lost a proset, 8-4.

Joseph Sarmiento came from behind to defeat Adolfo Fernandez in the lone boys match of the day, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Tonakset traveled to Ephrata for a non-league match on Saturday, March 24, with the boys losing 5-0 and the girls losing 3-2.
