Tonasket girls fall to Omak after strong start

TONASKET – Tonasket’s girls basketball team couldn’t sustain a solid start on Thursday, Jan. 3, at home against Omak, falling to 57-27 to the Pioneers in their first game of the new year.

The Tigers had their offense clicking int he first quarter, trailing 20-15 after eight minutes as Baylie Tyus and Devan Utt each scored six points.

But the well ran dry after that as the Pioneers went on a 15-3 run to take a 35-18 halftime lead.

The Tigers were unable to make headway in the third quarter and Omak pulled away in the final minutes.

Tonasket scored just 12 points in the final three quarters combined.

Utt led the Tigers (2-9, 0-5 Caribou Trail League) with nine points, with Kylie Dellinger adding seven and Tyus chipping in with six.

Cayden Diefenbach and Shawnee Covington each paced Omak (3-8, 1-4 CTL) with 12 points each.

Tonasket travels to Cascade on Saturday, Jan. 5.
