OROVILLE – Oroville’s May Festival Committee is seeking former May Queens and their attendants to help the community celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the town’s annual event.
Past May Day Queens and their Princesses will be given special treatment during this year’s activities, according to Polly Thornton, with the May Festival Committee.
“On Friday, May 8 at 5 p.m. past royalty are asked to meet for a social at the high school commons,” said Thornton. “And then we’d like them to attend the coronation later that evening. They will be announced as they enter and will be seated at the front row.”
There will also be floats available for the past royalty to ride on in the parade on Saturday, May 9, according to Thornton.
“We’d like to see as many of the former royalty as possible,” she said. “I know that the historical society is also looking for royalty dresses from the past to display at the Old Depot Museum. They would welcome anyone who would like to offer one for display.”
Past royalty are asked to contact either Thonton at (509) 476-3581 (days) or Shay Shaw (509) 476-3161 (evenings).
All community businesses, clubs, civic groups, churches and all others are also invited to enter in the May Festival Parade which starts at 10 a.m.
We would love to see your business or organization represented in this fun event celebrating 75 years of the May Festival,” said Shaw.  ”If you have an old car or an old tractor or if you’ve always wanted to participate in a parade, we want you.”
Pick up parade applications at  Sterling Savings, Prince’s Center and Oroville Pharmacy. Those with questions may contact Shaw or Marlene Barker at (509) 476-3644.
