WENATCHEE – After losing to Liberty Bell on Monday, Oroville’s girls’ basketball team had one more chance to continue post-season play towards State with a battle against Kittitas in Wenatchee Thursday, Feb. 25.

Kittitas proved too much for the Lady Hornets who got into foul trouble early in the game and lost 43 to 23, according to Assis-tant Coach Kristen Sarmiento.

“Alex Egerton and Kelsey Hughes were both in foul trouble the first quarter and Taylor Sarmiento didn’t suit up because she had the flu,” said the coach.

The Coyotes and Hornets played fairly evenly in the first quarter, with Oroville only trailing by two. In the second quarter Kit-titas went on a small run and ended up leading by seven by the half. After the girls came back from the locker rooms Kittitas continued to build its lead and never looked back. By the end of three they were up 32 to 19, Oroville finishing the game with a 20-point deficit.

None of the girls broke double digits against the Lady Coyotes. Catie Arrigoi was Oroville’s top scorer for the night with seven, followed by Kayla McKinney with five; Jayden Smith with four; Egerton with three and Rachel Peters and Hughes with two each.

“We played well, but we just couldn’t hold off Kittitas in that last quarter,” said Sarmiento.
