The Colville National Forest entered Stage 1 Fire Restrictions on July 22 due to elevated fire danger.

Two water-bomber planes gather water from Wannacut Lake to fight flames at the Rainbow Lake Fire on Palmer Mountain and the Wannacut Fire. The Rainbow Lake Fire was listed at 150 acres on Tuesday afternoon and the Wannacut lake fire was listed at 64 acres. Easy Fire near Mazama closes SR20, grows to 354 acres

The lightning-caused Easy Fire is burning in large dense timber with abundant dead trees and extensive ground vegetation.

Officers with the Washington State Departtment of Fish & Wildlife are investigating the killling of several loons on Beaver Lake in the Okanogan Highlands.
