EPHRATA – The Oroville track and field team competed at the Ray Cross Invitational last Saturday, March 25 at Ephrata with two Hornet girls breaking OHS records.

The Lady Hornets finished eighth with 27 points. Richland won the meet with 117.5 points followed by Ephrata, 91; Lakeside, 78; Moses Lake, 60; Wapato, 35; Quincy, 33; Toppenish, 30; Oroville, 27; Connell; 26.5; Okanogan, 26; Othello, 21; Riverside Christian, 19.5; Omak, 18.5; Lake Roosevelt, 18; Deer Park, 17; Kiona Benton, 15; Chelan, 15; Cascade-Leavenworth, 14.5; Pateros, nine; Wahluke, eight; Columbia-Burbank, seven; Lind-Ritzille, six; Evergreen Lutheran, three; Chiawana, two; Tonasket, two; Garfield-Palouse/Colton, one and a half and River View, one.

“Senior Catie Arrigoni finished in sixth place in the 1600 meter run breaking a 24-year-old school record previously held by Renee Gerth with a new time of 5:45.25,” said Hornet Coach Harold Jensen. “Freshman Sierra Speiker won the 3200 meter run in 11:45.36 shattering the record by almost 35 seconds set in 1987 by Heidi Emry.”

Also for Oroville, Callie Barker was sixth in the pole vault tying a personal record and Kelsey Hughes set personal records in both the shot put and javelin, placing third and fourth overall.

On the boys side Caleb Haney placed sixth in the discus, and now leads the 2B District 6 throwers. CJ Mathews placed sixth in the triple jump.

“It was very exciting that our veteran athletes had personal bests the first meet of the year under such cold and windy conditions,” said Coach Jensen. “Our younger classmen established very commendable marks that they can also improve on.”

Jensen added that his track and field teams are looking forward to the Oroville Invitational this Saturday April 2, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
