Late comeback falls short for Oroville baseball

OROVILLE – Waterville’s baseball team jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and held on for an 8-3 victory over the Hornets on Tuesday, April 17.

Ned Mathis pitched and took the loss for Oroville. Seven Oroville errors didn’t help his cause.

Nicky Perez and Ricky Mathis were each 2-for-3 with a double.

Waterville 21-23, Oroville 4-6

WATERVILLE – The Hornets suffered through a long Saturday at Waterville, falling to the Shockers 21-3 and 23-6.

Defensive errors again proved costly as the Hornets committed a total of 21 in the two games.

Boone McKinney started and took the loss for the Hornets in the opener. Matt Egerton and Brody Naysnerski each had a double as Oroville scored four runs in the fourth inning.

In the second game, Nicky Perez started with Ned Mathis coming on in relief. Egerton had a double and Chad Tibbs added a three-run triple for Oroville (0-11, 0-6 CWL North Division).
