Oroville boys' soccer falls to Okanogan, Tonasket

OROVILLE – The Oroville boys’ soccer team lost on the road and at home last week in early season match-ups against Okanogan and Tonasket.
The Hornets took on Okanogan on the Bulldog’s home field on Tuesday, March 22. Oroville lost to Okanogan 0 to 5.
“They passed the ball well and exposed our inexperienced players,” said Coach Carl Iverson. “You could tell they had played a lot of organized soccer.
Pablo Antonio, Micheal Ripley and Raul Rodriquez had very good performances and Levi Werner had 23 saves. However, the Bulldogs outshot the Hornets 35 to 15.
“I was pleased with our overall passing and very proud of the way our players fought the whole game,” Coach Iverson said.
On Thursday, March 24 the Hornets took on the visiting Tonasket Tigers and lost a close match.
“This was an intense game that could have gone either way. In the end, Tonasket scored on a corner kick and won 2-1,” Iverson said.
Dereck Tucker scored Oroville’s first goal of the year, in the 68th minute of the game.
“Oroville outshot Tonasket 28-19, but just couldn’t find the back of the net. Both defenses played well and it was a good rivalry game,” said the coach.
For Oroville, Pablo Antonio, Daniel Alcantara and Micheal Ripley played great defense, with Angel Camacho and Connelly Quick having great games in their mid-field positions, according to Iverson.
The Hornets host Liberty Bell Tuesday (after press time) and go to Tonasket on Thursday and then head to Warden on Saturday.
