COULEE CITY – The Oroville Hornet Wrestlers competed in their first League Mix-n-Match of the season at Coulee City.

Team leaders Nick Perez (140) and Mike Lynch (145) who had perfect nights registering two wins by fall. Sophomore Alex Kelly (125) followed with two pins of his own.

“Probably the most exciting bout of the evening for the Hornets was Alex Alvarez at 135 pounds winning both of his league encounters over two, state-ranked opponents,” said Coach Chuck Ricevuto. “This should bring Alex closer to being ranked in the state polls.”

Junior Jose Velasco had a one and one night, losing to state-ranked Taylor from WCK and racking up a pin in another bout. Also wrestling tough for the Hornets were Jadon Hocket (152), Gil Ildelfonso (130), Ivan Rodriguez (130), Eric Herrera (215) and Alex Beltran (285).

“Hopefully by the time we go to the Apple Pie Tournament in Tonasket on Saturday Jan. 16 we will have a few more var-sity competitors back from injuries and missed practices over the holidays,” said Ricevuto.
