Hornet wrestlers 3 and 0 in league duals competition

PATEROS – At a league meet in Pateros Jan. 15 the Hornets made it 3-0 in league duals with a 60 to 18 victory over the Billygoats.

“Alex Kelly started the evening with a 19 to 7 major decision followed by the ‘pinning machine’ Bryce Woodruff with yet another first-period pin for the senior,” said Hornet Coach Chuck Ricevuto.

Davis Castillo, Nick Perez, J.T. Miller, David Sanchez and Gabe Beltran picked up forfeit wins. Mike Lynch beat a very tough Ricky Heen with an impressive 10-5 decision while Tyler Herrera tech-felled his opponent in the first period 16-1.

“We are fortunate to be in a valley of great wresting competition that allows us to compete against an ‘A’ power like Omak,” said Ricevuto about the Hornet’s match against the Pioneers on Jan. 13.

“The Pioneers are ranked third in the state with some of the most talented grapplers Omak has ever produced,” Coach “Rice” added.

The Hornet kids ‘scrapped’ well and scored 30 points to the Pioneer’s 48 going up 18 points in forfeits.

Alex Kelly picked up a forfeit victory followed by a pin by Woodruff.

“Matt Kelly came through with a ‘Granby Pin’ in the third period in what was the evening’s most exciting bout,” said the coach.

Freshman Lynch pinned his Pioneer foe in the second period, while freshman Perez lost a regular decision to a very talented Brendon Aquilla of Omak. Tyler Herrera posted the final Hornet points with a pin.

Beltran, filling in for Carlos Herrera, lost a very close 0-3 decision for the final bout of the evening, said Ricevuto.
