Local food banks

OROVILLE – The Oroville food bank operates every Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., excluding holidays, in the basement of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. For more information, call Jeff Austin at 476-3978 or Jessica Lakey at 476-3817.

TONASKET – The Tonasket food bank operates every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 300 S. Whitcomb Ave. Drop-offs can be made at Tonasket Tavern. For more information, call Jack Gavin at 486-2480 or Debby Curren at 486-2459.

Christmas Potluck

OROVILLE – There will be a Christmas Potluck at the Oroville Senior Center on Tuesday, Dec. 25 at 1 p.m. Meat is provided by the center. It is appreciated, but not mandatory, if you’ll sign the sheet on the table at the entry, or call, 476-2412 telling what you’ll bring and how many will be attending. It helps with the planning.

New Years Party

TWISP – Enjoy a New Year’s Eve Party with Get Wired, Hometown Pizza, Young Life and Voices in the Valley in Twisp starting at 8 p.m. and continuing until 1 a.m. Cover charge is $10, which includes Hometown’s Pizza, soft drinks, a free drink of choice from Get Wired, unlimited computer and board games, Halo tournament, a movie and rock band, ENVOY. Coat Drive

OROVILLE – The Oroville Border Patrol Explorers Post is having their 2nd Annual Coat Drive. Drop off gently used, clean coats at the Border Patrol Station, 1105 Main St. in Oroville, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. before Friday, Dec. 21. Donated coats will be distributed throughout Okanogan County.

Christmas Eve Service

CHESAW – Chesaw Community Bible Church will have a Christmas Eve service at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Belly Dance Class

OROVILLE – Shake off the old year and bring in the new with a beginning belly dance class every Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the studio behind the Episcopal Trinity Church at the corner of Central and Fir in Oroville. Live Nativity

OMAK – A live Nativity will be presented in front of the Omak Wal-Mart store on Saturday, Dec. 22 from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Biblical Christmas story will be presented as well as musical numbers. This presentation is sponsored by Christians In Action, which maintains the translator for Spokane’s KMBI station at 103.9 on Omak Mountain. OROVILLE – Trinity Episcopal Church will celebrate the birth of Christ with a Christmas Eve service on Monday, Dec. 24 at 11 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Candlelight Service

TONASKET – A Candlelight Service is being held at the Tonasket Community Church on Monday, Dec. 24 at 7 p.m. Enjoy singing Christmas carols, a brief sermon, refreshments and visiting.

2008 Fireworks

OROVILLE – Kick-Off 2008 at the spectacular Oroville Community Fireworks display being held on Tuesday, Jan. 1 at 7 p.m. at OHS football field.

Closure Notice

OROVILLE – The Oroville City Hall and City Shop will be closed December 24 and 25 in observance of Christmas. Customers with a Monday and Tuesday pickup will be collected on Wednesday, Dec. 26.
