Local food banks

OROVILLE – The Oroville food bank operates every Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., excluding holidays, in the basement of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. For more information, call Jeff Austin at 476-3978 or Jessica Lakey at 476-3817.

TONASKET – The Tonasket food bank operates every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 300 S. Whitcomb Ave. Drop-offs can be made at Tonasket Tavern. For more information, call Jack Gavin at 486-2480 or Debby Curren at 486-2459.

Young Dancers

TONASKET – Young Dancers of Tonasket meet every Monday at the Community Cultural Center (CCC), 411 S. Western Ave., from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Learn beginning ballet dance steps and learn to dance in harmony with one another. The first upcoming recital “A little Winter Celebration” is being held on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 5 p.m. at the CCC. Enjoy traditional baked goods and beverages after the show. May Day Meeting

OROVILLE – A May Day Committee meeting is being held on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fire Hall. Bring a snack to share and an ornament to exchange. New people and new ideas are always welcome.

Oroville Youth Basketball

OROVILLE – Oroville Youth Basketball will meet at the elementary gym on Dec. 8 and 15, and Jan. 5, 12 and 19. Grades K-2 will meet from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and Grades 3-6 will meet from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There is no charge for this program. Explorers Food Drive

OROVILLE – The Oroville Border Patrol Explorers group will host a Food Drive at Prince’s on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Donated food will be given to Oroville Junior Women who in turn will create food baskets for those less fortunate.

Christmas Party

MOLSON – The Molson Grange Christmas Party is being held on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. with a potluck and program to follow. Share the spirit and fun of Christmas with singing, games for kids and a visit from Santa!

Harry Haney Fundraiser

OROVILLE – On Saturday, Dec. 8 there will be a pancake feed and silent auction at the Oroville Senior Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Faith Lutheran Church, Oroville Seniors, Oroville Fire Dept. and many others are joining together to help Harry Haney with his medical bills after an unfortunate accident. Items are needed for the auction; food items should be brought to the Senior Center on Saturday and non-perishables can be picked up ahead of time. Thrivent Financial will match funds made. Fire Commissioner Meeting

TONASKET – The Fire Commissioners of Okanogan Fire District No. 16 in Aeneas Valley will hold their next meeting on Monday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Tonasket Fire Hall. The public is invited to attend. Call Sam Wright at 486-4800 for more information.

Genealogical Society Meeting

OKANOGAN – The Okanogan County Genealogical Society will meet on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Wilson Research Center in Okanogan. This is also the annual Christmas party so bring goodies to share. There will be a silent auction for those that wish to participate. There will be no meeting in January.

Annual PRISM Concert

OROVILLE – On Friday, Dec. 14 the Oroville High School (OHS) Music Department will present their Third Annual PRISM Concert at 7 p.m. This concert features OHS students and group and community performing groups as well. The evening will close with an audience sing-along.

Free Christmas Movie

OMAK – Omak Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a free Christmas movie at the Omak Theater on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8 and 9 at 1 p.m. Admission is by donation of canned or packaged food for the local food bank. The move, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (PG) starring Jim Carrey is one hour and 45 minutes; all ages will be allowed and parents may drop their kids off.

50 year Celebration
