Raymond Elmer Colbert, a life-long orchardist and community volunteer, passed away peacefully at his home on Boundary Lane in Oroville, Washington on January 1st.
Dennis Robert Lorz, 64, of Tonasket, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away suddenly on Dec. 22nd 2012.
What makes this small town of Tonasket so special that it could not get it’s act together to lower two of its prominently displayed flags to respect the 20 children and six adults that were murdered in a small town in Connecticut very much like ours?

This coming Veteran’s Day the community, the county, in fact the whole state, should be proud of the U.S. Armed Forces Legacy Memorial built by volunteers in Tonasket. It’s a memorial to our veterans that rivals many of those in much larger municipalities.
The drama of last year’s competition for Tonasket Founders Day Rodeo Queen may have been lacking, but that was OK with Karlie Henneman, who knew as the only contestant this year that she would receive the crown she’d been pursuing since last year.
Tonasket EMS director will be teaching an Emergency Medical Technician course from November through February in Tonasket.
This week, to celebrate the first anniversary of my employment at the Gazette-Tribune, I temporarily allow the issue to highjack my sports column to talk about the politics of eating Big Bird, and how the thought set off a Twitter bomb with “Tonasket” written all over it … sorry, better make that #Tonasket, since we are talking Twitter.
It is sad that the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife after purchasing who knows how much land in Okanogan County is still not satisfied with what they have. It is also sad that our county commissioners are allowing this trend to continue, stating that they do not want to get between a willing seller and a willing buyer.
